A most Irish Petrol driven cars manufactured 2001 - onwards
My car feels like its not driving well but the engine light isn’t on?
A Sometimes the cars brain (ECU) still stores a fault code(s) but does not turn on the engine light on the dash - so there still could be faults
Can you extinguish/turn off my engine light on the dashboard?
A Yes - if there are no faults with the engine it should stay off too
What if my engine light stays on even after the diagnostics test or comes back on when driving the car again?
A then you have a fault on your engine or on the car and it needs addressing, and you will have to get an experienced car mechanic to fix the fault
What happens after you have performed the test on my car?
A we will tell you what error codes (if any) the ‘brain’ (ECU) of the car have been recorded - you can also get a print up of the codes to give to you car mechanic so he can go straight to the problem and repair it, should save time and money.
Will the diagnostic test you do ruin the car or adjust any settings on the car?
A not at all, its a one way diagnostic test - this means it will only read codes from the car’s ECU. It cannot modify or write any modifications to the ECU - we can clear the error codes if you wish (which in turn can extinguish the ‘check engine’ light on the dashboard)
I have repaired my engine and the check engine light is still on?
A most of the time just because the part/sensor has been replaced on the engine or cars electronics the error code still remains in the ECU which in turn still lights the check engine light on the dashboard. If you are confident that the part/problem has been fixed we can clear the error codes off the ECU and this in turn should extinguish the yellow check engine light on the dashboard
My yellow ‘check engine’ light is showing on the dashboard - will the car fail the NCT test?
A It could very well do. If there is a definite fault with the car’s engine or electrical items this could denote a fault with emissions, or some other mechanical or electrical problem/fault which could make the car dangerous to drive.
